Work and family circumstances vary with every person. For example: how to juggle your kids with their in-school and out-of-school activities, the demands of your job and your partner’s job and dealing with everyday struggles. We have to find what works and recognize the need to be flexible as family, work and personal needs change.
Some steps that can help are:

  • Concentrate on one thing at a time: Devote your full attention to the task at hand. When you are working, give it your full attention. When you are spending time with your family, focus solely on them.
  • Schedule one thing you look forward to each day: Have lunch with a friend, go to an art museum, or get a massage. The activity doesn’t have to be time-consuming, complicated, or expensive. Put aside an hour on your schedule to read a book, take a walk, or just to be alone.
  • Take a vacation: It is recommended that you take some time off from work to go away. You don’t need to spend a lot of money, but you do need to recharge your batteries in order to be the most productive, creative and relaxed person you can be.
  • Set boundaries: During the time you put aside for yourself, turn off your cell phone and savor the moment.

Speaking from experience, I have always separated my work and my personal life. On a monthly basis my husband and I have a date night and we have a family night with the kids. We make sure to take a family vacation during the year. Just taking time away from your city of residence makes a big difference.
