Soda is one of the leading beverages consumed in America, and with it’s high content sugar and caffeine it can cause some real health problems in the individuals who drink it. I was raised in a no-soda household, and in my adult years I find that I don’t have that acquired taste or craving for the sugary drink. However, I do enjoy coffee very much, and in high doses the caffeinated drink can raise some health issues of its own, especially if you add lots of sugar and cream. Recently I became aware of a fermented tea drink called Kombucha, which has the caffeine of tea or coffee to keep the pep in your step, and some serious health benefits for consuming it. Kombucha has found a place in the American marketplace only recently, but has been a Chinese health remedy for over 2,000 years. It has been used to prevent and fight cancer, arthritis, and other degenerative diseases and is dubbed the Chinese “Immortal Health Elixir.” There has been some scientific research on the health claims of this sweet fermented tea, and the evidence has proved there are some real advantages to consuming Kombucha.
Here are a few:
Kombucha is rich in enzymes and bacterial acids that occur naturally in our bodies for detoxing our systems, which reduces the burden on your liver and pancreas. It also has a high content of Glucari acid, which recent studies have shown help prevent cancer. The key to absorbing the effects is to drink Kombucha daily.
Glucosamines is a strong preventive and treatment for arthritis, by increasing hyaluronic acid production and is found in Kombucha. Hyaluronic acid aids preservation of cartilage, and enables connective tissues to maintain tissue structure, moisture, and flexibility. Kombucha can also be consumed to alleviate arthritic pain.
Digestion and Gut Health
Kombucha is fermented in a colony of bacteria and yeast, which makes it a probiotic beverage, and improves digestion, and decreases harmful yeasts in stomach and intestines. Rich in antioxidants it can boost your immune system and energy levels. It is also known to improve mental clarity, and stabilize your mood to reduce anxiety and depression.
You can find Kombucha in the grocery store in multiple flavors, or you can brew your own at home. Replace your soda or coffee gradually with Kombucha instead, and you could be doing yourself a huge favor for your health and extended life. It has the caffeine that many people can’t function without, but none of the danger that every bottle of soda or cup of coffee contains.
